Well there is no way around this one. The Rebels (14-9, 4-5 SEC) went into Starkville last night to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (19-5, 6-3 SEC) and right from the tipoff everything that could go wrong for the Rebs, did go wrong. State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead with three straight in the paint scores. From there the Rebels wouldn’t come within six points of the Bulldogs again. State did not trail once in the entire game.
To start the game the Rebels had trouble on defense. Kennedy had his defense playing straight man to man until State grabbed three easy buckets inside and decided to switch to the 2-3 zone. This did not work at all as Bost, Steele, and Hood would bury three pointers early. The offense didn’t prove to look any better for the Rebels as they were missing long attempts and putting up lazy shots on the glass. Terrence Henry tried to drive the ball in a few times but was rejected with no foul called all night. The final score of the game ended up being 70-60 in favor of State, however the game wasn’t as close as the final score would lead you to believe.
Areas where the Rebels struggled against State was the same struggles they have been facing all year on the road. The Bulldogs scored 9 three pointers to the Rebels 3, they were 5-7 from the line while the Rebs went 7-15, and State would outrebound the Rebels 36-31. The Rebs were dominated in all aspects of the game, it looked like we didn’t even show up to play.
