Mitchell Parsons
Tight End
Chaparral High School
Parker, Colo.
6’5 230 Lbs. (per Rivals.com)
Rivals: 4 star #7 position
Scout: 4 star #34 position
ESPN: 4 star #15 position
Other notable offers: California (visited), Vanderbilt (scheduled visit), Arizona State, BYU, Colorado (ex-commit)
2013 depth at tight end: Christian Morgan (signed), Evan Engram (committed), Jeremy Liggins (committed, could be a TE, DT, or QB at Ole Miss), John Youngblood (Fr.)
Scouting report: Parsons is built for this sort of offense. He is a big, athletic pass-catcher who runs good routes. At 6’5, he is a big target to throw to and he does a good job of catching the ball as it first comes in contact within his reach. He has average speed and average separation ability off the line of scrimmage, but he is great with catching the ball in traffic and he rarely lets one hit the turf. Definitely a big play threat, he shrugs off tacklers well and has excellent body control. His physicality, if he adds on some weight which should be no problem with his frame, could make him a very good blocker as well. He is not a finished tight end as of now, due to his need to put on a few extra pounds, but he can certainly make an impact as a true freshman in any of the programs listed.
Likelihood of signing with Ole Miss: Parsons loves Ole Miss and Ole Miss loves Parsons, might Freeze & Co. might have offended the Colorado prospect when they told him that he might have to grayshirt. There is a zero percent chance of Parsons coming to Oxford if that is all that he is offered. In 2013, Freeze will only have one scholarship tight end on the roster in Youngblood, who is a redshirt-freshman defensive end convert. While three or four tight end commits could be pegged as wasteful, this stable of tight ends (including Parsons) could be an efficient mainstay for Freeze for the next few years considering the baron wasteland that is the tight end position for Ole Miss. With a prospect like this, you find a scholarship to give him. Between Dannon Cavil’s flip to Cal, Finesse Middleton’s flip to Louisville, and Eugene Brazley’s interest in Arizona State among others, a scholarship should open up. If one does not, I’d say he’s Vandy’s to lose, or Florida’s to lose if they finally extend him an offer. 85 percent Rebels.
