Scouting report: Rivals and ESPN each have Lawson as their #2 overall player in the country. His first step is tremendous and he anticipates the snap very well. He kills the one-on-one matchups with his quickness and his strength. A very coachable kid, Lawson has massive upside. He has improved every year of high school and didn’t play varsity until last year, when he had 15 sacks and 31 TFL. This season he went up to 36 TFL and 26.5 sacks, unbelievable numbers against the type of talent he’s facing. Sort of an awkward in-between build, but he is fast and strong enough that he could play at an end or as a 3-4 OLB.

Likelihood of signing with Ole Miss: When it comes to Lawson, Ole Miss isn’t at the party, but they’re certainly one of the ones on the front step. After the hiring of Rodney Garner at Auburn, things got a lot bleaker for the Tigers holding onto Lawson. The former head recruiter for Georgia did not show interest in Lawson, something that understandably irked the standout end. It appears as though Clemson is the favorite as they are pursuing him frantically. The Tigers, Trojans, Rebels, and Vols have all received word on visits. USC in my opinion is a visit out of intrigue, but seems too far for an actual commitment, despite blue chip Georgia recruits Brice Butler and Jarvis Jones going out to SoCal in recent years. I believe that it will be Clemson or Ole Miss. Peyton Barber has been in his ear and they are casual friends and attend the same church. Barber loves the fact that Freeze is a devout Christian, something that may also woo Lawson. All five schools in the mix have a shot, but I think it is Clemson up ahead with Ole Miss right behind. Ole Miss 30 percent
