2012 Season: Last season the Rebels had three seniors at tight end in Ferbia Allen, Jamal Mosley and HR Greer. There was little need for walk-ons like Brown. He took a redshirt and has four years remaining.
Value: With the graduations of the aforementioned seniors, the Rebels are left with no experience at tight end. Head coach Hugh Freeze signed three tight ends in the 2013 class but was met with uncertainty. Christian Morgan, an early-enrollee, was injured after a promising spring and could miss the entire 2013 season. AJ Jackson, a heralded commit from Georgia, failed to qualify and will be enrolling in junior college. The third freshman tight end, Evan Engram, will compete for the job.
That leaves Engram, Brown and fellow walk-ons Jack Nuismer and Dylan Dyer as the only tight ends. None of the four have a single catch in a Rebel uniform. One will have to step up and Brown appears to be one of the candidates to do so. Right now Freeze is simply looking for warm bodies to fill that tight end slot and Brown had a nice spring. Relying on a redshirt freshman walk-on is never an ideal situation, but Brown has an opportunity to prove himself this fall.
