45 in 45: No.21 Jaylen Walton

Jaylen Walton

Running Back/Kick Returner

Sophomore

5’8 168 Lbs.

Memphis, Tenn.

2012 Season: Walton burst onto the scene in 2012 with touchdowns in his first three games. Against Central Arkansas he had a 10-yard touchdown run only to be followed up by a 51-yard touchdown reception against UTEP and a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Texas. Those were his only three touchdowns of the season but that didn’t stop him from racking up a 24.7-yard per kick return average, good for 4th in the SEC.

Value: A home run threat out of the backfield and in the slot Walton has a lot to bring to the table on offense. But with the stable of backs that the Rebels have at their disposal, his biggest contribution to the offense will be on special teams. Winning the field position battle is critical in the SEC and if Walton can get the Rebels somewhere in the 30-50-yard range then the offense has a shorter field to work with. He was very good last year and if he turns that into a great year this time around, the Rebels could find themselves in better positions to rack up points.
