Leading up to the 2014 season opener, we here at Ole Hotty Toddy will highlight selected players that can help make this a special football season at the University of Mississippi.

Today’s player spotlight goes to…

Laquon Treadwell

Class: Sophomore
Jersey #: 1
Position: WR
Height: 6ft. 2in.
Weight: 224 lbs.

Where is he from?

Laquon Treadwell came to Oxford as a native of Crete, Illinois. Treadwell was apart of Ole Miss’ extraordinarily talented 2013 recruiting class. He was ranked as a five star prospect and the overall No. 1 wide receiver leading into the 2013 National Signing Day. Treadwell was also listed as the No. 5 overall prospect in 2013.

Career Highlights

Laquon Treadwell backed up all the hype in game one of his freshman year. He set an Ole Miss freshman record of most catches in a single game, in the game against Vanderbilt. Treadwell also set Ole Miss freshmen season records of most receiving yards (608), most touchdown catches (5), and his 72 catches in 2013 was the 2nd most in school history.

8/29/2013: One handed catch against Vanderbilt
9/14/2013: Blocking on Texas defensive backs
11/16/2013: Breaks through tackles for an amazing touchdown against Troy (You can’t teach this)

Treadwell finished his 2013 season with 72 catches, 608 receiving yards, and 5 touchdowns. But, it was being named SEC Freshmen of the Year that was the biggest highlight of his freshman year.

Expectations for 2014

Since Donte Moncrief departed to the NFL Draft a year early, it will be expected for Treadwell to fill in those big shoes. We all knew it was coming, but not so soon. There will be a big expectation for Treadwell to step into a leadership role on offense in 2014. In 2013, Treadwell was used as more of a slot receiver to gain yardage and to get the first downs. Moncrief was used as a deep threat, and that looks to be the directional plan for Treadwell in 2014.
