It's Official: Austin Golson is Withdrawing from Ole Miss, Going to Auburn

It’s beginning to be a bad Monday. Start opening ‘your’ resume to right tackle, y’all.

It may not be a surprise to most that this was coming, but I believe some were clinging to the idea of Coach Hugh Freeze talking the beast of talent at right tackle (Austin Golson) not to leave. It was announced last month that Austin Golson would possibly transfer to another school to be closer to his family in Alabama.

Well it was confirmed this morning that Austin Golson is set to transfer to Auburn. But, it may come to a shock that it is not under the same circumstances as thought it would be. Austin Golson will go to the SEC West rival as a walk-on. This means Golson could play in 2014 if he chooses to pursue a hardship waiver. Otherwise, Austin would be eligible to suit up for the Tigers in 2015.

The Prattville native sends a huge blow to the Rebel roster. The team will now struggle to fill the depth of the already thin offensive line. Golson was a major impact to the Rebel offensive line in 2013. He came to Ole Miss as a freshmen last year ranked as a four star recruit and ranked 3rd in country at his position. So, yes it was a very big deal in losing him. The Rebels will more than likely expect even more freshmen to fill in the role, such as Roderick Taylor or JUCO transfer Fahn Cooper.
