Oxford Regional – Washington at Ole Miss Preview and Open Thread


It took 22 hours for the Oxford Regional to begin. Ole Miss beat Jacksonville State on Saturday evening by a final score of 12-2, in the first round of the Oxford Regional. Earlier in the day, Washington shutout Georgia Tech, 8-0, in the regional opener.

Due to Friday’s postponed rain delays, there will be a three game stretch on Sunday and the regional tournament will wrap up on Monday. Here is a look at the scheduled games:

Game 3: Georgia Tech vs Jacksonville State – 11 a.m. CST
The loser to this game will go home. The winner will face the loser of Game 4 Sunday evening.

Game 4: Washington vs Ole Miss – 3 p.m. CST
The loser to this game will have to face the winner of Game 3 immediately after the conclusion to this game. The winner of this game will get extra rest for Monday’s finale.

Game 5: Game 3 winner vs Game 4 loser – 7 p.m. CST
The loser of this game will go home. The winner will face the winner of Game 4 on Monday.

Game 6: Game 4 winner vs Game 5 winner – 2 p.m. CST
If the Game 4 winner wins, it is over. If the Game 5 winner wins, then there will be an extra game at 7 p.m. CST between the same teams.

Ole Miss Downs Jacksonville State, 12-2

Junior right handed pitcher, Chris Ellis pitched a complete game against the Gamecocks on Saturday. The Rebels delivered 17 hits in route to the 12-2 win. Every Ole Miss starting batter received a hit. The most successful of that group had to be Sikes Orvis. Orvis finished 3-for-4 on the night, including two runs and a career-high five RBI.

Game 4 – Washington at Ole Miss Preview

Washington is ranked No. 14 in the country and is expected not be an easy task for the Rebels to advance. Yesterday, the Huskies held the ACC title champions to four hits and zero runs.

Washington Huskies Scouting Notes

• The Huskies are averaging .282 in batting as a team.
• They are led by outfielder Brian Wolfe. Wolfe leads the team with 35 RBI and 5 home runs.
• The pitching staff is averaging a 3.17 ERA with 40 wins.
• That staff is led by Tyler Davis with a 1.60 ERA and 11 wins. We should not see Davis on Sunday, as he pitched against Georgia Tech on Saturday.
• The Rebels should see junior righthander Jeff Brigham (7-4, 2.93 ERA)
