ESPN’s College GameDay Could Come to Oxford

Okay, we are serious this time. It could happen.

In the history of Ole Miss football, there has been one thing the program has never accomplished – hosting College GameDay. Yes, the school known for it’s exquisite art of tailgating has never hosted the popular ESPN college football road trip.

More from Ole Miss Football

This past weekend, the Ole Miss Rebels annihilated Louisiana-Lafayette and creped into the top ten of the Associated Press Poll for the first time in over five years. The previous experience was a short-lived moment of being ranked No. 4 in the nation and received little chance to prove themselves against a top-ranked team.

Even though we’re trying are damndest not to look past the upcoming matchup against Memphis, we are just a few weeks away from hosting the No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The Rebels will have a bye week this coming weekend, then they will host the Tigers on the 27th, and then Alabama on October 4th.

The upcoming game against Alabama is one that many Rebel fans have been longing for awhile now, myself included. It will be the first time these teams have played in Oxford since 2011, and we all know the moral support at home is a little advantage we would like to take this season. The Rebels are on the rise, and are one of the top “sleeper” teams of discussion in the nation right now.

After starting the regular season 3-0 and a berth into the top ten, there should be little reason of why ESPN’s College GameDay should not come to town for the Ole Miss-Alabama game. It is a dream of many Rebel fans, and now that dream is becoming ever so close to a reality. ESPN’s College GameDay producer Lee Fitting has recently told Paul Finebaum that the TV program is deciding to either host Alabama-Ole Miss or LSU-Auburn on October 4th.

This is without a doubt one of the best chances Oxford has received of landing a spot to host GameDay. If the Rebels beat Memphis as they are projected to do, there is no question the team could see a slight increase from their current ranking. On the other end, if Alabama beats Florida in their upcoming matchup prior to coming to town, it increases the chances of us hosting GameDay even more.

We are on the verge of witnessing one of our program’s biggest games in school history. If the Rebels can produce similar performances on the field like that have in the previous weeks, this year could be Ole Miss’ best chance to beat Alabama for the first time in over a decade.

We at OleHottyToddy.com, several Rebel faithful, and even some other media outlets feel this could be the year Ole Miss pulls off the upset over the Tide. If these hopes, predictions, and opinions come true it would be without a doubt one the biggest wins in Ole Miss football history. That is why there is so much hype building around this game.

If Ole Miss hosts College GameDay, and if Ole Miss beats Alabama, I don’t think the town of Oxford will be able to survive that much of a monumental celebration. Hell, I’m not sure we would even need a GameDay experience for this town to burn right to the ground if we beat Bama.

No, we wouldn’t.

Like we said, Ole Miss has a bye week this coming weekend, then they will host Memphis on September 27th. That matchup is scheduled to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. CT and will be aired on the Fox Sports Network. The kickoff time and TV broadcast station is still to be announced for the Alabama game. We will keep you updated once more information is announced, including ESPN’s decision on the GameDay location for October 4th. If you are still looking for tickets to the Ole Miss-Alabama game, you better get them now. Most sites, including Ole Miss’s official site is announcing they are sold out. Otherwise, if you have your seats ready, I will personally see you at the game. Hotty Toddy!
