Ole Miss recruiting landed commitments from 3-star CB AJ Harris and unranked defensive end/linebacker Jay Johnson on Sunday. AJ is 6’0 170 pounds and is being recruited at CB but is versatile enough to play any position in the secondary, which is the plan for recruiting DB’s by the staff, now. Jay Johnson was originally committed to Ole Miss out of Bruce, MS in high school, but didn’t qualify academically so he went to East MS.

Once there, he moved from WR to RB and then got injured. This spring he moved to DE/LB and while at practice, the staff saw him and decided to re-offer him on the defensive side of the ball. He stands 6’4 230 pounds.

I wouldn’t trade our position with anyone for 4-star LB Jacob Phillips. Ole Miss is sitting pretty for him right now.

Everyone needs to calm down about Willie Gay. He is still recruiting for Ole Miss. I can’t give all of the details but the stuff between his staff and MSU’s was more of a miscommunication. With that said, he couldn’t find a ride to Ole Miss’ camp.

I can’t say this for absolute certainty but it seemed he was bored so he just decided to be at State’s camp to hang out with some friends. Y’all have got to remember that the rivalry isn’t that big of a deal to these kids. They’re all friends with each other off the field no matter where they go to school.

CJ Avery is another that was at the Big Dawg camp this weekend. Over the past couple of weeks, I have gotten the vibe that he isn’t as solid to Ole Miss as I originally thought. You may remember I had 3 people that I believed would commit in the summertime.

He was one of them but he recently announced he is instead announcing a top 5 this summer, now. It’s looking like the NCAA stuff is definitely a concern for him and until that is resolved, I believe he goes to MSU, but if that gets resolved before signing day like I think it will, he’s a Rebel in my opinion.

I will go ahead and release the 3 that I believed were going to commit. Todd Harris, AJ Harris, and CJ Avery. I believe Todd is going to move back his decision since he gained the Alabama offer that I mentioned previously, would be a game changer. I still believe Ole Miss is leading but it’s mighty close and could change at any moment. I mentioned above why my mind has changed on CJ. In regards to AJ, he told me on June 22nd that he was going to be a Rebel but was just waiting to make his decision. He’s a great kid and a great player and I look for him to be a stud in the future for Ole Miss.

If you follow me on Twitter (@T_Italiano_OHT), you may have seen that I tweeted the rolling eyes emoji in the direction of Tennessee. 5-star OT Trey Smith’s sister was hired in the on-campus recruiting department by Tennessee a few days ago. She previously worked for the Women’s basketball team I believe, but you can bet your bottom dollar that this has to do with Trey and not her credentials. Only time will tell if it has an effect on Trey’s decision.

I’m still waiting for a blue chip defensive player to flip from a school. Am told it is 100% done, but he’s just waiting on one thing to come through (grades-wise).

3-star S Jordyn Peters (AL) put Ole Miss in his top 6 along with MSU, Auburn, Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Duke.

4-star CB Russ Yeast (IN) visited Ole Miss this past weekend. Also tripped to Alabama and Auburn and received an Alabama offer.

Ole Miss LB/S target and current LSU commit Patrick Queen clocked a 4.49 at 6’1 220 pounds this past weekend at LSU camp.

DT Emmit Gooden originally out of Tennessee, visited Ole Miss this weekend. Ole Miss was his leader out of high school with Alabama and Tennessee following but was discovered he was a grade risk so those 3 schools quit recruiting him. MSU kept recruiting him and placed him at Holmes CC. I believe if Ole Miss recruits hard enough, they can get him. Will be one to watch this fall.

More from Football Recruiting

MSU commit James Jackson was at Ole Miss this weekend. Still doesn’t have an Ole Miss offer but is one to keep an eye on. I like his athleticism at 6’4 345 pounds but feel he is a NG at the next level and needs to lose a good 30 pounds to be able to play in the SEC. May not ever receive an offer because Ole Miss is too good at recruiting these days to offer projects.

2021 QB Aaron McLaughlin of North Gwinnett, GA, received an offer from Ole Miss recently. he’s 6’4 1/2 and 200 pounds already. I don’t understand where they make these kids at but thats unreal.

Willie Gay announced he will play in the Army All-American game

Ole Miss legacy Tyrese Fryfogle out of George County, MS, received an offer from Ole Miss this week. 6’2 195 pounds and a receiver.

3-star athlete Braylon Sanders put Ole Miss in his top 4.

2020 QB Harrison Bailey from Marietta, GA received an offer from Ole Miss this week. Along with Ole Miss, he holds 8 division one offers already. He’s 6’4 205 pounds.

Ole Miss offered Tennessee commit and St. Stanislaus, MS TE Chase Rogers this week. Ole Miss will only have 3 scholarship tight ends on roster next year so they’re adding him to have more depth at the position. At Arkansas State, the Tight End position was a big part of Freeze’s offense and he often used multiple tight end sets in his offense. It is worth a mention that he is also teammates with 4-star QB Myles Brennan.

Yancy Porter is reporting a commitment from 3-star CB Jamar Richardson. He is  6’1 175 pounds and is from Aliceville, AL. jamar named Ole Miss his leader on June 7th.

*** 4:29 PM – Confirmed Jamar Richardson has committed to Ole Miss.
