Former Ole Miss linebacker C.J. Johnson announced on twitter that he will join the East Mississippi Junior College football coaching staff.

Johnson was released by the New England Patriots last week just before the beginning of training camp. It is unclear if this signals the end to Johnson’s professional aspirations.

EMCC has won three national championships (2011, 2013, and 2014) and was home to former Ole Miss QB Randall Mackey, Bo Wallace and current QB Chad Kelly. Current Rebel D.J. Jones and recently graduated Christian Russell also played for the Lions, coached by Buddy Stephens.

East Mississippi has been the subject of a Netflix documentary titled “Last Chance U” revealing the day-to-day operations of the program and junior college football.
