Ole Miss Football: Rebels Lose Chad Kelly in Victory

The Ole Miss football team defeated Georgia Southern 37-27 in Oxford, but the Rebels are the real losers from today.

The Ole Miss football team played a game in Oxford on Saturday, and that was about the extent of it. Georgia Southern was the one team that I was worried about over the summer.
A triple-option team coming in after you play Auburn is not what a team needs, especially when you are on a three-game skid like the Rebels were.
Despite the victory over the Eagles, Ole Miss took the biggest loss of the game, losing Chad Kelly to a knee injury. The extent of the injury is unknown for now, but Kelly will have an MRI this week.
Chuck Rounsaville of the OMSpirit confirmed that the injury was a knee injury.
Chad Kelly’s backup is Jason Pellerin, a redshirt freshman from Louisiana. Pellerin came into the game in the 3rd quarter when Kelly went down with what appeared to be a head injury.
In Pellerin’s 1 3/4 quarters of play, he went 1-for-5 passing for 19 yards. Not a comforting stat line.
After Kelly went out of the game, the Rebels focused heavily on the run game, ramping up Akeem Judd, who ended the game with 26 carries for 139 yards and 1 touchdown.
Hugh Freeze discussed bringing in a new quarterback to play backup to Pellerin if Kelly can not play against Texas A&M this weekend.
The new quarterback being Ryan Buchanan, who quit the team before the season to focus on his academics and fraternity duties.
Rounsaville confirmed that Freeze was not joking when he mentioned bringing Buchanan back for a game.
Just know one thing, even if Buchanan turns down the offer, Shea Patterson will not play this season. The Rebels are not going to burn his redshirt to attempt to salvage a 4-5 team.
The Ole Miss football team looks to take on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station next week, attempting to win their fifth game of the season.
