Everything is certainly claimed to be bigger in Texas! Why would It be any different for the visiting Ole Miss baseball team? Well, these Texas teams are no joke, and the Rebels aren’t laughing as they move into today’s match-up with the Toads of TCU.

The #10 Ole Miss baseball team, who came into the Houston tourney after a mid-week loss to Memphis, was hoping to make a big hit. However, the word ‘hit’ has not been used by many Rebel fans nor scorekeepers this weekend. In fact, this has been a rough weekend for Rebel bats thus far.

The Silence of The Whams

More from Ole Hotty Toddy

Ole Miss Baseball had been dominant at the plate in their young season, and then went silent  midweek against the Tigers. As the #8 Rebels took the field against #17 Baylor, they were hoping to crank up the offense and stalled in a 4-0 loss to the Bears. Allowing only 2 hits from the Ole Miss baseball squad was instrumental in the Baylor victory. Of course, the offensive woes are easily illustrated by the fact of Rebels having runners on base in 7 innings and coming away from the contest scoreless.

Competition Keeps Getting Tougher

Saturday’s contest against #10 Texas Tech at the 2017 Shriner’s Hospital for Children College Classic would be another huge test for the Ole Miss baseball team. The Rebel wood looked better at the plate, but defensively the Rebels fell apart. Rebel bats slated 7 hits in the contest, and the Rebel heat-slingers held the Red Raiders to only 5 hits in the contest. However, 3 errors in the contest proved to be the Rebels downfall in a 5-1 loss. Rebel bats were sparked late with Michael Fitzsimmons  going 2 for 2 at the plate, while Ryan Olenek also added 2 hits in the loss.

Toads Await Ole Miss Baseball

#1 TCU is a tough team and definitively  the best in Texas. Considering the Ole Miss baseball team has dropped two consecutive games to Texas teams in two days, this could be redemption day. Coach Bianco was inspiring in this early game-day tweet.

#1 TCU, who has been a perennial powerhouse in college baseball for years, comes into the contest with a 9-1 record. They have one of the best pitching staffs in the nation which recorded a record 26 strikeouts in the extra innings win over TAMU last night. This will be a tougher test than the other two Texas teams Ole Miss dropped contests to this weekend. However, the physically draining game against our SEC brethren last night, may be just the edge Ole Miss Baseball needs against the Toad bullpen. Ole Miss Baseball needs this win!

First pitch is at 2:35 pm and will be televised on Fox Sports.
