It would only make sense Miss State would be the biggest rival for Ole Miss football. However, a rival is usually a team which presents a real challenge at taking a lead in the series. With the Egg Bowl it isn’t even close.

Ole Miss football and MSU do have a rivalry and it centers around the Egg Bowl game. It’s always each teams final regular season game of the year. Of course, it’s an important game for each SEC West team. If for no other reason of the sheer proximity of the two schools. However, in recent years there has been a more even playing field than ever before.

Ole Miss and Miss State have both been teams which boast great talent in both players and coaches. There has been no shortage of stars for either team. Of course, when you combine talent and coaches you get winning programs. Since Hugh Freeze got to Oxford the Rebels took back control of a Golden Egg which Dan Mullen swore never to lose again.

But Lets Be Fair

Just to be totally fair to the Bullys, I have to say they did spank our butts this past Egg Bowl. A 55-20 game is never fun when you lose and even worse when it’s the team just down the road.

Of course, the win gave MSU head coach Dan Mullen his 5th Egg Bowl win in 8 seasons. In contrast, the loss gave Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze only his 2nd loss in 5 seasons.

The record doesn’t make the rivalry however the history does. Therein lies the problem. MSU hates history and history is something TSBU immediately relates to Ole Miss.

They hate our history of having a winning program and SEC and National Titles. They hate our bowl record and especially our all time Sugar Bowl record. We have the most Sugar Bowl wins in SEC history behind Bama and State College has never even made it to the game.

They despise Ole Miss more than the Egg Bowl record itself. They literally blame us for their failures. Like we are the reason they fired the last MSU coach to beat Alabama. Oh wait a minute, never mind. They hate us yet they are obsessed with seeing us fail rather than see themselves succeed fairly. It’s crazy.

Fandom Is Crazy

The harsh nature of fandom is what makes the rivalry heated. Now with social media the internet can become a combustion chamber for inter-collegiate rivalries. The Egg Bowl has been an extremely heated rivalry going way back. Oops, there we go with the history stuff again.

To think all this Rebsession was because one rogue TSBU ‘journalist’ took it upon himself to create a fire under Ole Miss football. Thru social media he has convinced the sheep in Starkvegas he is the Nosetrolldamus of the entire NCAA case.

All the while drawing enough attention from the NCAA to now be in MSU’s backyard sniffing. Student-Athletes Nos. 39 & 40 are the reasons he wanted the names from the responses and started the whole FOIA fiasco. He already knew MSU was in trouble.

However, a so-called journalist can’t be the only one to blame in this charade where MSU players lied to investigators while under immunity. All the while MSU head coach Dan Mullen and MSU administration were interfering in and obstructing an official investigation in order to help try to facilitate the lies.

Next: Mutt Foolishness!

Whatever happened to just fielding a team and beating somebody enough times you catch up? They tried that when they fired Croom. Oh yeah they hired Mullen and everything was rosie until Hugh Freeze showed up and took back Cousin Eddie’s Egg Bowl trophy. They can’t win on a fair field of play so they’ve stooped to this level. Lies and deception from the man filling the sheep trough to the man who owns the farm. Sad the extent a rival will go to try to catch up.
