Ole Miss football recently picked up another commitment. This time it was from the JUCO ranks in the form of running-back Scott Phillips.

Despite all of the negative attention for Ole Miss football from the NCAA case, it is still business as usual for Freeze and Co. Ole Miss football recruiting has gone surprisingly well in the opinion of many Rebel fans. The first day of July proved it with the verbal commitment from one of the leading JUCO running-backs in the nation.

Although Scott Phillips has yet to be officially ranked by Scout.com, he is a legit contender to lead the nation in rushing this fall at Jones County JC. His freshman year the 5’9″ 205 lb rushed for 1200 yards and 14 TDs. Don’t let the size fool you either. Phillips runs much bigger and has blazing speed on the edge. He also has very good vision downfield and is hard to tackle. Check out his highlights and see for yourself.

So Why Ole Miss?

Scott Phillips also had other offers including Miami, MSU and LSU. However the Jones County standout settled easily on Ole Miss.

Phillips is excited to have a chance to play in the high-powered Ole Miss offense and is obviously aware of the progression of running-backs in the new Phil Longo style of offense.

According to OMSpirit.com Phillips had a couple of schools wanting him to transfer this summer however Jones County has a really good team coming back and he is anxious to spend another year with the team.

Phillips plan is to be a January enrollee so he can get in school for spring training. Ole Miss, Miss State and LSU were the only schools which seemed interested in going along with his plans.

According to Yancy Porter with OMSpirit.com Phillips was destined to wind up at Ole Miss when he ran a very fast 4.47 forty in Oxford. Phillips had a great camp, made a great impression on the Ole Miss staff and got the offer he wanted all along.

"“The schools who offered me to transfer this summer I didn’t want to go to,” Phillips said. “I wanted to go to Ole Miss. I always have. I grew up in Ellisville (Miss) and have always wanted to play for Ole Miss.” ~Scott Phillips, RB"

Next: This Season Isn't Far Away!

Scott Phillips is a great running back who will be very reminiscent of some great Ole Miss RBs. However what makes Scott Phillips really great is he has always wanted to be a Rebel and that’s the kind of players we need now more than ever.
