In less than 24 hours National Signing Day begins and Ole Miss football fans will see where coach Matt Luke and his new staff rise or fall in the mix.

Wednesday morning Ole Miss football fans will be watching their news feeds waiting for the list of final signees who ink with Ole Miss. The Rebels have seven empty spots in the 2019 Ole Miss recruiting class which they need to fill and have a number of ‘target’ recruits which coach Matt Luke and his new staff have set their sights on.

Each year we watch NSD with bated breath hoping for that one huge signing class. In the past we have seen Ole Miss football have some very successful recruiting classes with a number of those players becoming first round picks in the NFL Draft. Now its 2019 and things look a lot different for the Ole Miss football program and the current recruiting class, however it is just as important.

When you look at the future of Ole Miss football and consider what the Ole Miss program has been thru in the past 5+ years then you have to be optimistic about the 2019 Ole Miss recruiting class. This season is looking at a Top25 class and could improve depending upon how Wednesday lays out. At OHT we have our sights set on some definite ink for the Rebels and we’ll look at them now.

The Hard Targets

When you look at the last seven potential signees of the 2019 Ole Miss recruiting class you have to appreciate still having a strong horse in the race for coach Matt Luke. The recent changes in the Ole Miss staff have raised some questions for some Rebels fans however we can all agree the changes needed to be made and there will be recruits who can appreciate them.

There is no doubt the major focus of this staff and Rebels fans is Under Armor All-American Jerrion Ealy. Ealy was a long time Ole Miss commit until his UA AA game in which he set the current rushing record and subsequently decommitted shortly after. Ealy would be a huge one-two punch for the Rich Rod offense out of the backfield next season.

Most pundits have Ealy inking with Clemson but some of us believe he will ink where he can actually make a huge difference in his freshman season. When you factor in coach Mike Bianco and the Top10 Ole Miss baseball team and Ealy splitting time between programs on his last official, OHT sees him signing with the Rebels while we still may lose him to the 2019 MLB Draft.

Other Targets

Every Ole Miss football fan can agree the past two seasons Ole Miss had so semblance of a defense. Now with Mike Mac introducing a 3-4 defense we know we need more athletes on the defensive side of the ball. One of the biggest for Luke on NSD is JUCO LB Lakia Henry out of Dodge City Community College. Henry is a playmaker at the LB position and would be a huge get for Luke and new DC Mike Mac. Henry is expected to choose between Ole Miss, Arkansas and Texas.

Two exciting wrinkles for NSD are Adonis Otey and Zach Edwards. Both Otey and Edwards were on officials this past weekend in Oxford. Otey is another player who could be huge for Luke, Mike Mac and the Rebels. Otey’s signing spot remains a mystery but is likely between Arkansas and Ole Miss. Edwards landing spot is unknown until Wednesday morning.

Latest News

Huge news came late Monday evening as it was announced 4-star QB John Rhys Plumlee had committed to the Rebels. Plumlee, who took an official to Florida State this past weekend, was on official in Oxford the weekend before. Plumlee is a dual-sport athlete who will play both football and baseball while in Oxford. Plumlee likes the Rich Rod offensive plan and will be a huge factor in competition with Matt Corral. This was a huge recruiting win for Luke and Rich Rod.

We can also expect to see LB Brandon Mack ink with the Rebels. Mack has been solid on Ole Miss since his commitment and will be another great addition for the new Rebels 3-4 defense. Mack will sign with Ole Miss Wednesday.

In addition we can also expect to see Under Armor All-American WR Jonathan Mingo ink with the Rebels. What Mingo will bring to the Ole Miss receiving corps and the Rich Rod offense will be key over the next few years. Mingo is a great WR and will be a key fixture in the NWO.
