There is no denying coach Kermit Davis did a great job with his turnaround season for Ole Miss basketball and now is he is building for the future.

When you look back on the 2018-2019 Ole Miss basketball season then you know what an improvement we saw from the past season. Coach Kermit Davis took a 12-20 team to a 20-12 team which saw a berth in the NCAA Tourney as a No.8 seed. What’s the difference in the two teams? New coach, new offense and defense and a new players.

Look, we all know coach Kerm can coach and we all love his very animated gesture on the floor. It is very reminiscent of his days as a player for MSU. What we also know about Kermit Davis is the fact he is phenomenal recruiter. We watched him do it at Middle Tennessee State and now he is back home in Mississippi. It will be so much better.

While many Ole Miss basketball fans were skeptical about head coach Kermit Davis when he first arrived in Oxford you have to admit he has turned a down program around. After a huge turnaround season even the worst of us armchair coaches knew something was missing despite a great new coach.

While it was great season there are pieces of the puzzle missing and now Davis has to build around what is left after graduation and transfers and possible NBA draft opportunities.

Wednesday was National Signing Day for college basketball and coach Kermit Davis and Ole Miss basketball made a statement. The Rebels picked up a letter of intent from 4* shooting guard Austin Crowley. Crowley was the fifth player to ink with Davis and Ole Miss.

Crowley, originally from West Point, is listed at 6’6 and spent the past two seasons at Sunrise Christian in Wichita, Kansas. Crowley has a 247Sports Composite of 0.9384 and rated as the No.9 shooting guard in the nation and the No.1 player in the State of Kansas. Crowley’s addition to the Rebels raises the current Ole Miss basketball recruiting class to No.38 in the nation and No.7 in the SEC.

The Current Class

  1. Austin Crowley, 4*, SG
  2. Rodney Howard, 3*, C
  3. Antavion Collum, 3*, SF
  4. Sammy Hunter, 3*, PF
  5. Bryce Williams, 3*, SG
