The Ole Miss all but wrapped up the "preseason" this weekend against Jacksonville State. They will have one final tune-up game this week against South Alabama before SEC play comes around and 3rd ranked Arkansas rolls into the Oxford.
The Rebels have been perfect since that blowout loss to Texas, rattling off now 13 straight victories and picking up their third straight series sweep this weekend.
The first poll of the week is out, and D1 Baseball has the Rebels up four spots to 13th in the rankings. This sets up a top-15 matchup in Swayze this upcoming weekend.
Friday : Ole Miss 7 - Jacksonville State 4
Friday was the closest of the three games. Hunter Elliott took the mound and allowed his first runs of the season. He made it only through 3 and a third and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. After the game, acknowledge that Elliott's start was in question due to an illness but that Hunter wanted to go. I also think it is better that he will not be on short rest before SEC play. I don't think this start is of concern, and hopefully, he will be back to himself next week.
Heading into the 6th inning, the Rebels were down 4-2. It was a three homerun inning for the Rebs, and they wouldn't look back. Fawley started things off with a blast, and it is looking more and more like he will be the starting catcher for this team, especially this upcoming weekend. Furniss would follow that up with a solo shot of his own to tie the game. Furniss followed up his big game-tying double against Murray State with a nice weekend at the plate.

Just two batters later, freshman Hayden Federico would hit his first career home run to give the Rebels the lead.

Mason Morris was phenomenal out of the bullpen in this one. He has really developed into maybe the go-to arm. He threw nearly five scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and striking out 7. Connor Spencer would close things out with a perfect, 11-pitch, 9th inning. That is a good sign, as he has looked much better after his first two outings.
Saturday: Ole Miss 12 - Jacksonville State 4
Saturday was never in question as the Rebels came out swinging, scoring nine runs in the first two innings. Issac Humphrey picked up where he left off on Friday and would rope in two RBI in the first. Will Furniss would drive in two more in the first on a single.
The Rebels would then have a pair of two-run shots, first with Mitch Sanford and later catcher Austin Fawley, who would hit his second of the weekend, giving the Rebs a 9-1 lead after 2.
Riley Maddox was really good again to start this one, throwing five innings and only allowing one run on two hits. We also saw freshman Walker Hooks throw three scoreless innings in relief, striking out 6. He has grown into a high-leverage role in this bullpen heading into SEC play.
Ryan Moerman would continue his absolute torrid pace to the start of the season, with a two-RBI double in the 7th, and Issac Humphrey would walk with the bases loaded to bring in another run.
Sunday: Ole Miss 13 - Jacksonville State 2
Sunday would play out very similarly to Saturday, and it was a runaway victory for the Rebels as they closed out the sweep. Issac Humphrey started the scoring with a solo home run in the 2nd inning for his second home run of the weekend. Utermark would clear the bases on a double in the 4th, and the Rebs would take on a few more that inning to lead 5-0 after 4.
Mason Nichols was great in this one. Throwing four scoreless innings, only allowing one hit, and struck out five hitters. Landon Waters also turned in his best outing of the season, throwing nearly two perfect innings and allowing just one baserunner via walk.
The rest of this could be summed up by Ryan Moerman just taking the game over as he is cementing himself as the best hitter on the team through the first month of the season. He would first park a three run homerun into the left field seats in the 5th inning, before hitting a walk off mercy rule grand slam opposite field in the 8th inning.
The Rebels are back in action Tuesday afternoon, in Mobile, Alabama for one last tune up match against South Alabama before returning to the friendly confines of Swayze Field for the start of SEC play.
