2012 Season: Campbell was redshirted in 2012 in order to have a shot at a presumed more improved season in 2013. He is second all-time at Ole Miss with a 44.6 career punting average. The Birmingham News voted him preseason second-team All-SEC.
Value: Special teams were a nightmare for Ole Miss last season. Three kicks were returned for touchdowns against the Rebels. Opponents averaged 24.5 yards per return on kickoffs and 7.9 ypr on punts, two numbers that will need to be vastly improved upon.
Head coach Hugh Freeze’s special teams philosophy is to “provide the winning edge”. Campbell will look to do just that by flipping the field for Ole Miss. Last season’s punter, Jim Broadway, placed 26.3 percent of his punts inside the opponent’s 20 yard line. Compare that to Campbell’s 38.9 percent and it is easy to see the value he can have for Ole Miss from 2012 to 2013.
