One of the best QB’s to ever play at Ole Miss was Romaro Miller from 1997 to 2000.  He came on the MakeItRainSports show on RebelSportsRadio and we talked some football. (SHOW LINK HERE)

Ro, it seems to be easier to find QBs that can run the spread offense as opposed to a pocket only passer.  Do you think this will lead to the NFL more widely adopting the spread over time?

I do think the spread will improve the NFL.  You look at a guy like Peyton Manning who I think is the best QB to ever play the game but with the up-tempo offenses, these young guys are coming in and surpassing his records each year.  So I can see how that type of offense will help young guys come in to the league and make an immediate impact.

The SEC will take a big hit in 2014 with the number of starting quarterbacks leaving the league but that gives Bo Wallace a chance to be one of the top returning quarterbacks.  What type of season can he have in 2014?

Bo just needs to get well and get healthy.  He really wasn’t able to go through a full season of practice last year and wasn’t able to be completely healthy.  With the way the egg bowl turned out I’m sure he will want to improve and show the type of leader he is capable of being.

Ole Miss has a few off-the-field issues this spring.  Oxford is often seen as a “party town.”  How do student athletes walk that fine line between taking care of their business and getting caught up in the party atmosphere.

We had guys that got in trouble when I was in school but it wasn’t anything too crazy.  I don’t think this is anything the guys can’t come back from.  There are two sides to college, the academics and the social life.  It’s also important to recruit the right guy, when you are in the living rooms you need to make sure the kids understand that.

January and February are always a tough time for football players.  You aren’t in a program, maybe you have too much free time.  But now they will be focused and will be too tired from the workouts to get in any trouble.

If the loss of all these players in the SEC benefits the Mississippi schools, this year’s Egg Bowl could really mean something.

I think so!  It will be in Oxford this year.  The guys will definitely have a bad taste in their mouth from the Egg Bowl last year.  I’m looking forward to the season getting started and watching that game.

Donte Moncreif choose to leave Ole Miss as a junior for the NFL draft.  What do expect from him as a pro?

I think Donte’s best football is ahead of him.  When you get in that pro-environment, you have the best coaching, the best training;  you treat it like a business, like a job.  I think he will just get better and better.
