The 2014 Ole Miss football season is just around the corner. Here at Ole Hotty Toddy, we want to bring you the most coverage you can find to get you prepared for the upcoming season. In this article series, we are going to take an in depth look at each position for the Ole Miss Rebels. We are going to cover what happened with each position in 2013, the impact players of each position, and the future of each position. Hope you enjoy!

Our 2014 position preview article series continues with wide receivers. The Ole Miss Rebels wide receivers have been an area on offense that they’ve pulled out tremendous talent over the years. From Shay Hodge, Mike Wallace, and Donte Moncrief, the Rebels have brought top-notch receivers to the NFL and other football leagues.

In 2013…

Donte Moncrief once again led the Ole Miss receivers in his junior season. Moncrief finished the 2013 season with 59 receptions for 938 yards and picked six touchdowns. He would choose to opt out of his senior year to join the 2014 NFL Draft, and would be the 90th overall pick to the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2013, we also got a glimpse of the future talent of Ole Miss football. After signing the overall no. 1 wide receiver in 2013, Ole Miss started true freshman Laquon Treadwell. Treadwell would burst on the scene in the very first game against Vanderbilt. Treadwell would have a stellar freshman season, as he finished with 72 receptions for 608 yards and five touchdowns.

Quincy Adeboyejo also made his Ole Miss debut in 2013 as a true freshman. He was a member of the 2013 signing class and was rated a 4-star prospect as the no. 42 wide receiver in the nation. Adeboyejo received two starts in 2013, but played in every game. He picked up 7 receptions for 71 yards and caught his first career touchdown for 24 yards against Troy.

Ja-mes Logan was a fifth year senior in the 2013 season and has his best year at Ole Miss. Logan would finish his Ole Miss career with 136 receptions for 1,734 yards and six career touchdowns. Logan went undrafted as a free agent to the New England Patriots in 2014.

During the Offseason…

Now that Moncrief and Logan have departed to the NFL, Coach Hugh Freeze and Coach Grant Heard have been looking to see who will fill in those shoes. It has been stated that a lot of high expectations are going to be on the shoulders of sophomore Laquon Treadwell. Last season, Treadwell was used as a short yardage receiver, but now is looked to replace Moncrief as the deep field threat.

Cody Core had great performances during spring practices. During the Grove Bowl, Core picked up 4 receptions for 51 yards. Josh Johnson and Core pulled some great performances in the annual spring game.

A coaches’ favorite and a big surprise this offseason has to be Collins Moore. Coach Hugh Freeze had this statement on surprises this offseason after the Grove Bowl, “the first one that jumps out just because of the body of work that he put in during the 15 days is Collins Moore. Moore and Coleman got the Most Outstanding Player awards.”

In 2014…

You can expect all eyes to be on Laquon Treadwell to fill in the role Moncrief has played over the past couple of seasons. Treadwell is a one-of-a-kind talent and it is projected he will be going into the NFL Draft sooner than Ole Miss fans would hoped for. So, enjoy it while it last Rebel fans.

I expect Collins Moore and Quincy Adeboyejo to make some good quality starts in the 2014 season. Cody Core and Josh Johnson could also have a breakthrough season this year. There is also…

The Future…

Coming in the fall, the Ole Miss Rebels will add 4-star prospect Markell Pack to the roster. I really expect Pack to come in as a true freshman and make some quality starts for Ole Miss this season.

Pack is a Mississippi native from Petal, and dropped his early commitment with Florida State to sign with Ole Miss in 2014. Pack is fully of speed and can also be a long ball threat. His talent for causing mismatches against cornerbacks will be a necessity for the Rebel offense.
