Hotty Toddy Headlines: Remembering Chance Tetrick

Chance Tetrick was eleven years old and had battle his diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia for more than a year. At no point did his fight with cancer ever prevent his heart from enjoying the passionate things every young boy should experience in their lifetime. One of Chance’s biggest passions was Ole Miss sports, primarily football. Chance was a proud supporter of his Ole Miss Rebels. By attending games, meeting his favorite players and coaches, Chance fullfilled many childhood dreams any boy could only wish.

Over the past year, Chance had been fighting for something many of us take for granted, his life. What made Chance’s story so heartwarming was that he always showed courage and never gave up. I unfortuniately never had the privilege to meet Chance, but I did communicate enough with my friend and colleague, Evelyn Griffin (a friend of the Tetrick family) and Chance’s father Jeff to learn that Chance was tough and never viewed his journey as a negative situation.

On Monday, August 4, 2014 at 5:28 p.m., Chance’s battle with cancer was finally over. Chance passed away at the age of eleven. He leaves behind his father Jeff Tetrick, mother Jenn, and younger sister Collins. Even though Chance is no longer where we all want him to be, he is however now in a paradise none of us could possibly imagine. As Coach Hugh Freeze stated on Twitter, Chance will now have the best seat in the house!

Chance’s passion for his Rebels will forever be in the hearts of Rebel Nation. While everyone mourns over the loss of one of our beloved Rebel family members, let us not forget the many memories a lot of us had with Chance. From Ole Hotty Toddy, we want to send our deepest prayers to the Tetrick family. Rebel Nation will never forget him and his passion. Unfortunately the battle is not over for Chance’s family. They are embarking on a pain and struggle that no parent ever expects to endure. If you would like to make donations to the Tetrick family, you can reach out at FinsUpForChance.com or if you have any further questions you can contact Evelyn Griffin on Twitter, @OleMissEvie.

Win or lose in games, let’s make this upcoming football season Chance’s season.
