Ole Miss Football Press Conference: Week 2

Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze and QB Bo Wallace met with the media Monday following the opening 35-13 win over Boise State and discussed the SEC opener coming up against Vanderbilt.

Playing the opening game on Thursday allows the team to look at tape and have a little more time to rectify some of the mistakes from week 1 to 2, which should help the team progress.

Some of the high points of Coach Freeze’s comments include:

Coach says he will be working on the offensive line this week and improving the run game. He mentioned he plans to get freshman Rod Taylor into the mix on the offensive line a little more.

The team walked out of the Georgia Dome with no injuries Thursday night but Nose Guard Issac Gross missed the first game due to a neck strain; he will ready for Nashville. Wide Receiver Collins Moore did not practice today but may be available for Nashville also.

Denzel Nkemdiche is ready for Nashville. Serderius Bryant and Denzel will split time at linebacker, Coach says he is excited to have him back.

He was also talked about future recruiting needs that include linebacker, one or two wide receivers, some depth at corner and safety. Freeze is looking for a tailback and a quarterback but mainly he says he needs offensive lineman.  There will be a lot of losses in the next couple of years and there is not much depth now.

He mentioned he was very happy with Channing Ward, Robert Nkemdiche and the entire defensive line. Coach called out Tony Conner as really improved on pass coverage from last year.

Bo Wallace addressed the media and made the following points:

Regarding the Boise game, he felt he made some plays expect for three throws (interceptions). He says once he took what was available, we started scoring points.  Wallace feels as healthy as ever and was probably pressing too much to make a statement game.

Wallace says he wasn’t surprised by Cody Core’s performance, he felt like he has great ability.

Wallace also addressed the false starts and that the offensive line will be much improved. He knows Coach Matt Luke will improve and help reduce the penalties.
