GameDay Central: Ole Miss vs Vandy Open Thread
By Dave Bevan
It’s gameday Rebel Nation and OleHottyToddy.com is going to keep you updated throughout today’s matchup between Ole Miss and Vandy.
I want to thank our senior staff writer, Acey Roberts, for holding down the fort this week while I was too busy to write. I hope everyone enjoyed all the articles he posted this week. I know I did. So, now I am back and will be giving you live updates on today’s action between the Ole Miss Rebels and Vanderbilt Commodores.
Ole Miss Rebels: Previous Week
The Ole Miss Rebels are 1-0 and currently ranked 15th in the AP Poll. They beat the Boise State Broncos last Thursday, 35-13, in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. A lot of skeptics were concerned with Bo Wallace after he three interceptions in the first half, despite having a very successful 2nd half that included three touchdown passes on three consecutive drives. Wallace finished the game with 387 total passing yards. This week against Vandy, Wallace has the chance to prove last week’s game was just first week jitters in the first half.
Ole Miss Rebels: Key Players to Watch
Bo Wallace: You have to look at what he is going to do in every game this year. Wallace’s role and value is so important to this team, that the team’s success this season will be based on Wallace’s performance. Last week, Bo Wallace three 4 touchdowns, 387 passing yards, and three interceptions in the season opener win over Boise State.
Laquon Treadwell: Not that Treadwell has replaced Donte Moncrief’s role on the outside, the Rebels will be looking for him to be the leader of the receivers this season. Laquon Treadwell had a very successful game against Boise State last week. He had five receptions for 105 yards and also picked up a receiving touchdown. Last season, Treadwell was a huge threat in the game against Vandy and I don’t see it being different this year.
Cody Prewitt: Cody Prewitt once again proved why he was an All-American after the win over Boise State last week. Prewitt finished tied for second on the team with 8 tackles and also picked up an interception in which he returned for 23 yards against Boise State.
Tony Conner: Like Prewitt, Conner was another highly rated Rebel defensive player who had a very successful first week. Conner finished with six tackles and one interception in the win over Boise State.
Vanderbilt Commodores: Previous Week
Vanderbilt is coming into the second week of the college football season under first year head coach, Derek Mason. When I say first year, this is Mason’s first year of receiving a head coaching job at a colligate level. He comes from Stanford, as their previous offensive coordinator, and is starting his head coaching career in the nation’s toughest conference. Mason is use to an offense that is built around the run game, and is challenged with adapting a Commodore team that is use to being pass-friendly. Week one was nothing of success for Mason, as Vandy suffered an embarrassing (37-7) loss to Temple. Yes, Temple. Even though it is just an aftermath of week one in his first ever head coaching job, some Commodore fans are already asking for Mason’s head. Ouch! Can Vanderbilt turn things around?
Vanderbilt Commodores: Key Players to Watch
Steven Rivers (QB): Vandy is still looking to see who has that mojo to carry their offense.
Last week: 12-25, 48% completion percentage, 186 passing yards, and one interception.
Ralph Webb (RB): He was more successful on the ground than any Ole Miss running back in week one.
Last week: 14 carries, 70 rushing yards, 5.0 avg.
