Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are faced with one of their toughest challenges in recent history, replacing star QB Dak Prescott. The Bulldog defense is still stout, led by LB Richie Brown. The Bulldogs were picked the finish last in the SEC West by the SEC Media.

Randy –

The Mississippi State team is one of the more underrated teams in the country in my opinion. If they can find some solid quarterback play, the Bulldogs could be an 8 or 9 win team this season.

The Bulldogs got lucky with a good draw this season. Their schedule is one of the lightest in the country, especially in the SEC. The only out of conference game that would scare me, is the trip the BYU. But the Bulldogs should be able to handle the Cougars.

Elijah Staley should surprise some people with his play. If the Bulldogs offense can match their defense, this team could be interesting.

Prediction: 8-4; fifth in the SEC West

I have the Bulldogs starting out 7-1 before meeting Texas A&M. I have MSU losing to LSU, A&M, Alabama, and Ole Miss. The A&M game could be a toss-up depending on the quarterback play of each team.

Kevin –

With the loss of Dak Prescott, the Bulldogs lose their leading passer and leading rusher. The defense will be decent, but we can’t underestimate the importance that Dak had on this team. The Bulldogs will struggle for a winning season.

Prediction: 5-7; last in the SEC West

Tucker –

No doubt State has exceeded expectations in the past, and despite their recruiting woes, have managed to put out a few good players here and there. But they lost Dak Prescott, and as much as they’d like to convince you that they’re fine at the QB position, they’re not.

They have signed three 2-stars and one 3-star QB to replace Dak and at best, they will be average at the position. In time, Nick Fitzgerald (The presumed starter) could develop into a top QB in the SEC but right now he is young and raw. To go along with losing the best QB in their history, they lost 1 of their 2 wide receivers that are good, their best two defensive linemen, ½ of their best linebackers, and both starting cornerbacks.

They have not recruited to replace any of these positions with the exception of defensive line but even then, they will be extremely young and unproven outside of Nick James.

Prediction: 6-6; sixth in the SEC West

Tyler –

It was a toss-up between the Bulldogs and Auburn for the cellar spot in the West. It came down to Mississippi State having no offensive line, no quarterback, no running back and basically no hope.

Prediction: 5-7; last in the SEC
