OHT’s SEC West Season Predictions
By Randy Morgan
Ole Miss Rebels
The Ole Miss team is one of the most hyped teams in the country. Chad Kelly is one of the best returning quarterbacks in the nation. If the Rebels can continue this domination on offense, and the defense can step up, the Rebels could be lethal.
Randy –
Ole Miss is looking to have the best season in school history this season, but will have a tough row to hoe. With a schedule like this one, and with an NCAA investigation hanging over their heads, the Rebels could be facing some trouble.
Game one is a tough one for the Rebels, as they head down to Orlando to play Florida State on Monday Night Football. If the Rebels can stop the Seminole offense, and continue to dominate on offense, the Rebels should win.
Prediction: 11-1; first in the SEC West
I have Ole Miss losing to Florida State, despite their ability to defeat the Seminoles. I think the Rebels go undefeated to end the season. I could easily see Ole Miss going 9-3 as well, due to losses to Alabama and LSU, but I think the Rebels have the team to beat both.
Kevin –
Rebels are returning the best quarterback in the SEC in Chad Kelly. Kelly combined with a bevy of talented receivers and a serviceable group of running backs should have the offense moving like a machine.
The defense should be talented enough for the Rebels to be SEC West contenders. Facing an inexperienced quarterback in Alabama and Georgia early at home will be a chance for the Rebels to get key wins early.
Prediction: 10-2; first in the SEC West
Tucker –
Ole Miss returns not only the best QB in the conference but arguably a top 2 QB overall in the entire country. Couple that with a decent amount of games started on the offensive line, one of the top wide receiver cores in the country, and a solid backfield, it should be the best offense in the SEC and one of the top in the country, again.
On defense, the Rebels return a massive amount of experience on the defensive line, which along with QB, is the most crucial part for a team. Linebacker is a little bit of a question mark outside of DeMarquis Gates, but Ole Miss received a graduate transfer from Oregon State’s leading tackler, Rommel Mageo.
The secondary was decent last year adding Tony Conner back to the fold, along with the two starting cornerbacks, should be about the same as last year. If CJ Hampton and company can step up to replace Trae Elston and Hilton at safety, it could go from good to great.
Prediction: 11-1; first in the SEC West
Tyler –
With a Heisman candidate at quarterback in Chad Kelly, the SEC’s top WR corp, and a defense that could be even better than last year. The Rebels biggest question is on the offensive line that lost two key starters to the NFL in LT Laremy Tunsil and RT Fahn Cooper.
The Rebels had several young offensive lineman play last year during Laremy Tunsil’s suspension and an injury bug on the offensive line during the same time period. Ole Miss signed the nation’s top offensive lineman in Greg Little.
If Ole Miss can solve the offensive line early on the Rebels will be a force to reckon with in league play. Ole Miss has several tough stretches where they could lose a game, starting with September where they play 3 top 10 teams in the first 4 weeks.
If the Rebels could escape September with no loss or just 1 loss, especially if that loss IS NOT to Alabama, the Rebels will leave September a legit title contender. If they can avoid the surprise losses like they had last year don’t be surprised if you see Ole Miss in Atlanta in December.
Prediction: 10-2; second in the SEC West
