Weekly Recruiting Rewind 7.17
Ole Miss recruiting has been pretty steady so far this year, and the Rebels could be adding even more highly ranked recruits later on.
The recruiting landscape is constantly evolving, so every week, I come out with a rewind of the week’s events to keep the readers up-to-date.
2017 Commits:
- DD Bowie / 4-star WR / Morton, MS
- Willie Gay / 4-star OLB / Starkville, MS
- Bryan Jones / 3-star DE / Madison Prep Academy, LA
- Rasool Clemons / 3-star DE / East Mississippi CC, MS
- Josh Clarke / 3-star OLB / Riverdale, LA
- Alex Faniel / 3-star QB / Glen Allen, VA
- Devin Rockette / 3-star / Oxford, MS
- Markell Winters / 3-star / Jones County JC, MS
- Ben Brown / 3-star / St. Aloysius, MS
- Lavante Epson / 3-star / Washington School, MS
Ole Miss offered former Baylor commit, Jayden Peevy (TX). He’s a 6’7 280 pound defensive tackle.
Per Barton Simmons (247sports), the rumors at The Opening were that Ole Miss leads for 5-star offensive tackle Trey Smith. Ole Miss was the first school to offer Trey when he was 14 years old.
Ole Miss offered 2017 4-star Duke defensive end commit, Drew Jordan. He was a top 5 defensive linemen at The Opening.
4-star Safety Bubba Bolden of Bishop Gorman (NV), recently de-committed from USC. I reached out to the 6’3 defensive back and he said he’d be very interested in Ole Miss and may visit if he received an offer. The next day he received an offer from the staff. He’s from the West Coast, which has been tough to recruit from, but he may be one to watch.
4-star JUCO defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs planned on committing today but chose to push that back because he feels he should pray more over his decision. Ole Miss is in his top 5, but I believe he will end up at LSU. Ole Miss and Alabama seem to be a close second for the Ruston (LA) native. He currently plays at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.
Ole Miss made 3-star DE Tyree Johnson’s top 12. He goes to school at St. John’s College HS in Washington DC. Rebel Baseball player Errol Robinson attended that school as did Terrell Hall who was a 5-star defensive end target in the 2016 class who ultimately chose Alabama over Ole Miss.
Ole Miss made Russ Yeast’s top 6. He recently de-committed from Kentucky. He is an Indiana native and it is believed that Louisville leads.
I still believe Ole Miss will gain 3 commitments before the end of summer. I’m confident with two of them and the third I am about 60% positive will be a Rebel.
Ole Miss’ top QB target in the 2018 class is 4-star Allan Walters of Peddie (NJ). He currently has Ole Miss as his leader over Florida and Alabama. Allan will be at Ole Miss for a visit and camp on July 21-22.

3-star James Clemens (AL) linebacker Monty Rice named Ole Miss in his top 9. He is teammates with fellow 2017 target and 4-star DL LaBryan Ray. Rice holds offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, and Arkansas.
LB commit Josh Clarke plans on camping at Ole Miss this coming up weekend. Willie Gay is thinking about it and will decide whether to go to that or Elite Dawgs. No, that is not him choosing MSU over Ole Miss if he goes there. It will be a much bigger camp than Ole Miss is hosting so that is why he may go there. He is all Rebel and continues to recruit for Ole Miss.
I still love where Ole Miss stands with 5-star RB Cam Akers
I am growing more confident we will land a commitment from a player currently committed to another highly ranked program. Again, that is all I can say right now on who it is but you will like the flip. Blue Chip guy (4/5-star guy).

****UPDATE We are on commitment watch for jumbo athlete Taekion Reed of New Hope (MS). He is a 6’5 289 pound OT/DT/TE and is being recruited at DT by Ole Miss.****
