Ole Miss Rebels All-Millennial Football Team
Move fast and hit hard. That’s the calling card of a true linebacker. We’ve had a lot of guys who could move fast and many who could really hit hard.
Linebackers
First Team:
Patrick Willis
Do I really need to explain why this man is on this list? There were four no brainers on this All-Millennial team: Manning, McAllister, Treadwell and Patrick Willis. In 2006 he collected 137 tackles, seven pass deflections, three sacks and two forced fumbles. He was a Dick Butkus Award winner. A two-time All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year. But he is known here for the punishment he inflicted on opposing running backs. If you don’t believe me ask LSU’s Justin Vincent. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Google it. It’s worth it.
Jonathan Cornell
Cornell finished his career with 219 tackles and eight sacks. He provided stability during a 4-8 season. He was voted the most valuable senior during a year the Rebels didn’t have many bright spots. It earned him a spot on the first team.
D. T. Shackelford
Second Team:
Mike Marry
Marry was a mainstay at mike linebacker. He was a consistent playmaker that could be counted on to perform. There was a feeling that he would break out and dominate but never really got to that point. But it didn’t lessen his effect of the defense of this Rebel team.
Tony Fein
The late Tony Fein makes this list simply because is the originator of the landshark defense. His fiery compassion for the game was infectious and his landshark celebration continues to motivate the Ole Miss defenses.
