Nick Fitzgerald | Mississippi State

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Coach Dan Mullen have yet to name a starting quarterback for the 2016 season. Replacing arguably the best player in program history in Dak Prescott is a difficult job. After the exit of Elijah Staley from the program, the field of potential starters have dwindled. Most experts expect sophomore Nick Fitzgerald to win the starting spot.

If the Bulldogs are going to have a successful year it will start with who is under center. We are leaning with the experts on this one and believe it will be Fitzgerald. He has a decent arm and can move well. His arm is probably better than Dak’s was at the same time in his career.

But Fitzgerald will lack Dak’s instincts and decision-making that only comes with playing time. He has the potential to be a good QB for Mississippi State. But the offense that Coach Mullen runs is one that takes repetition to master. He is still learning it. Though he can run, if he ends up the Bulldogs leading rusher like Dak was last year, it will be a long year.
