Chad Kelly’s Career at Ole Miss is Over

On Saturday, November 5th, Chad Kelly sustained a season-ending knee injury. His career at Ole Miss officially over.

Chad Kelly, Sugar Bowl champion quarterback, has had his collegiate career ended by a torn ACL and a torn lateral meniscus. Kelly will undergo season-ending surgery on Monday.

On a play in the third quarter, Chad Kelly was tackled hard by a Georgia Southern defender. After coming up woozy, the staff took Kelly to the locker room to run concussion tests on the quarterback. What came back was far worse.

Kelly reappeared on the sideline in the quarter, but without a helmet. Kelly would not return to the field again. That was the last time Chad Kelly would compete as an Ole Miss Rebel.

Jason Pellerin will take over the duties as starting quarterback for the Rebels this weekend when the Rebels take on Texas A&M in College Station.

It will be the first time since 1998 that Ole Miss starts a freshman quarterback. It is also the first time since 2010 that Ole Miss has started a quarterback that did not transfer to the team.

Texas A&M is favored by 20 points in the matchup.

Chad Kelly will finish his career third all-time in Ole Miss passing yards, with an even 6,800. He trails Eli Manning and Bo Wallace.

Kelly also finishes first all-time in completion percentage as an Ole Miss quarterback, with a 63.9% completion percentage.

He finishes his career third in touchdowns as a Rebel, with 50. Kelly trails Eli Manning and Bo Wallace in that category as well.

He threw a touchdown pass in every game he played in as a Rebel, throwing a TD in 22 straight games.

All of these accomplishments happened in 22 games, essentially one and three-quarters of a season.

Chad Kelly would lead the Rebels to a Sugar Bowl victory in his first season as quarterback of the Ole Miss team.

Before arriving at Ole Miss, Kelly would make stops at Clemson University and East Mississippi Community College.
