Ole Miss Baseball: Rebels Get Comeback Win Against #17 USM
The stage was set at Trustmark Park in Pearl Mississippi for a showdown. Of course, Ole Miss baseball, coming off being swept by the other in-state rival MSU, faced #17 Southern Miss. Down 4-0 in the bottom of the 5th, the Rebels would mount a comeback to force extra innings, and get the 6-5 win against in-state foe #17 USM.
This may be the break-open game Ole Miss baseball (17-12, 3-6) has been looking for. Actually, that remains to be seen. However, one thing is certain, this Rebel team loves dramatic finishes. Of course, we are Ole Miss and we are used to drama.
What better way to secure a victory against an in-state foe than in extra innings. Oh by the way, did I mention a pitcher scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Although, out of position players, Coach Mike Bianco put pitcher Jason Barber into the order in the bottom of the 12th. Barber reached base after being hit by a pitch. Amazingly, Barber later scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Seriously, you really can’t make this stuff up folks. However, it’s baseball.

Hitting, has been a problem for Ole Miss. However, it was more consistent in the game against #17 Southern Miss. In total, 8 Rebels recorded hits against USM pitching.
Tate Blackman went 1 for 5 while Colby Bortles went 1 for 3. Accordingly, Will Golsan, Chase Cockrell and Grae Kessinger also recorded hits in the game.
On The Hill
Greer Holston (0-2, 3.18) started on the rubber for the Ole Miss Rebels last night. Holston went 4.2 innings, while giving up 4 earned runs on 4 hits. However, Holston did give 3 free passes in his effort, while striking out 3 Golden Eagle hitters. In total, 6 pitchers would see duty on the hill. Of course, Dallas Woolfolk (2-1, 0.83) picked up the win, with his 2 innings of scoreless work, to close out the game.
