Defensive Backs

The corners and safeties struggled during the 2016 football season. The Rebel fans had gotten used to having the likes of Cody Prewitt and Senquez Golson running around in the rear of the defense. Those guys are gone. However, we still have quality players on the team. This year they will be a little more experienced.

Javien Hamilton was an early enrollee from Jones County Community College. However, there is still more help on the way. This Summer we have a few DBs coming in to add to the quality of that position group. Here is a look of just a few.

D. D. Bowie

Bowie was rated a four star wide receiver during the recruiting cycle. However, his athleticism allowed him to be a pretty good DB while in high school as well. Bowie had 12 career interceptions in high school while averaging 28.8 yards per interception return. It has been indicated by Bowie and the coaching staff that he will most likely help the team on the defensive side of the ball.

The 6’1 187 lbs. star from Morton, MS. has the ability to improve the defense immediately. Bowie’s length and ball skills make him a good candidate for early playing time. He has the ability to make plays on the ball.  He has decent speed to keep up with opposing receivers. Look for the addition of Bowie to be a huge boost on the field.

A. J Harris

The Madison AL. native looks to be a major part of the future of the Ole Miss Rebels. A. J. Harris will bring track speed to the Ole Miss defensive backfield. Harris was a star track athlete at Bob Jones High School. The Rebels would love to see his speed displayed on Saturdays.

Harris is 5’11 191 lbs. He was a three star athlete that is able to get to the ball. His speed will be invaluable with keeping up with the SEC receivers he will see. He was a steal for the Rebels during recruiting. It would be great to be able to red-shirt him, but if he has to play I believe he will compete for playing time.

Kam White

Although, he was previously committed to Iowa State, the Rebels never gave up recruiting Kam White. The efforts were rewarded when White de-committed from the Cyclone and weeks later commit to the flagship school of his home state. The Clinton native ended up being a quality late signing for the Rebels.

White brings both size and speed to the field. He is 6’2″, 210 lbs. Just like Bowie, he gives Ole Miss good size in the defensive backfield. He was listed as an athlete during the recruiting process. You can see why, because once he has the ball in his hands, he has the ability to take it to the house.
