Gary Wunderlich

Lost in the hullabaloo of last season was the fact that Ole Miss was the home to one of the best kickers in college football. Gary Wunderlich will return next year with the chance to prove to the NFL teams that he is worth a draft pick. I believe he will be able to do it.

His numbers from last year will garner interest. Wunderlich will be entering next season trying to keep up with last year’s show of accuracy. He was 22 of 23 in field goals. That is an amazing 95.7%. His only miss coming on a 55 yard attempt against Georgia. Wunderlich’s longest was a 49 yard bomb against Auburn. We can look forward to Wunderlich being on the pre-season Lou Groza Award watch list.

When kickers are selected they are usually selected in the latter rounds. However, that would be fine with the native of Memphis, TN. Now, the fact that he is a kicker lessens his chances of getting drafted. It may be a long shot. However, a great season by Wunderlich will land him a home in the pros. If not via the draft definitely by free agency.
