Summer Questions: Which Newcomer Needs to Perform?

Spring practice is a good opportunity to see where your team is deficient. The Rebels saw some great performances by many of the players that were here. There were even some great surprises like Jordan Ta’amu at the quarterback position but there are still questions at other positions.

However, inevitably we will need a new player to step up and perform immediately for the Rebels. The yearly attrition caused by graduation leaves room for new players to come in and fill immediate needs. Plus there are areas that did not perform well enough to guarantee a player remains in their starting spot. So some newcomers will have to come into summer camp with the expectation of playing significant minutes.

So, which newcomer needs to come and perform well?

Josh Clarke

This one was a hard choice. It came down to Josh Clarke or Mohamed Sanogo. Both are desperately needed at the linebacker position. However, I could only pick one and I really like Clarke. Although, I expect Sanogo to be a real contributor too.

The Louisiana native brings raw athleticism and toughness to the position. He has a nose for the ball carrier and seems to always be involved in every play. Clarke should get to see time on the field immediately. He will have the entire summer to show the coaches he can make plays. The linebacker position was one of extreme weakness last year. He will be called on early and often.
