A rough end to a tough season finally found some form of reward for Ole Miss baseball. The 2017 MLB Draft was in full force and found five Rebels selected on the final day. These five Rebels have found their way into the MLB.
For Ole Miss baseball fans it was a really rough season. While the season may not have turned out quite as we had hoped, it was still an overall success for Ole Miss baseball. Their success was measured by the 2017 MLB Draft in which five Rebels were selected. It was on the final day of the draft which they would finally hear their names called.
It’s no big surprise that these five players would hear their names called. The surprise is the fact they came so late in the draft. All five of these players are jam up some of the best players in the nation on the collegiate level. The SEC is the toughest conference in the nation and any player who makes the draft is exceptional.
Of course, the MLB Draft is also the measure of a college program. Regardless of how the season may have ended, Ole Miss baseball is a great baseball program. Coach Mike Bianco produces a lot of draft status players. According to OleMissSports.com,
"For the 14th consecutive year, at least four Rebels were selected in the MLB Draft. Under head coach Mike Bianco (17 seasons), 99 Diamond Rebels have been drafted. Throughout Ole Miss history, 166 Rebels have been chosen since the first MLB Draft in 1965."
Of course, Bianco’s record speaks for itself. For now it’s about these five Rebels and where they landed. Keep in mind, four of these players still have college eligibility so they may choose to return. Let’s start with the Doc.
