Ole Miss Football: 2017 Ole Miss Rebels Season Predictions
Vanderbilt Commodores
Ole Miss Rebels Football
October 14, 2017 will find the Ole Miss Rebels hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for homecoming. The Commodores are coming off a season in which they posted a 6-7 record and finished 5th in the SEC East.
Although the Vanderbilt fans looked at it as a disappointing season they did have wins over Georgia, Tennessee and Ole Miss. Head coach and defensive coordinator Derek Mason has worked hard to build a decent football team in Nashville and has achieved a degree of success. However, it’s been nothing compared to the James Franklin days.
Offensively the Dores can be productive at times, however inconsistency on that side of the ball was a problem for them in 2016. However the Dores have 16 returning starters from the 2016 season. In a conference where experience goes a long way, Vanderbilt will be noticeably improved.
Defensively all you have to say is Derek Mason. Mason has long been known to be one of the best defensive coordinators in the SEC. Mason’s 2017 Vandy defense is returning 7 starters. We can expect more of the same from a tenacious defense.
Prediction
First, I hate scheduling an SEC opponent for a homecoming game. It is literally the biggest insult in football. In some situations it’s like poking a hornets nest with a stick to find out if there’s anything inside. This could be one of those situations. Of course, many of you will say “But it’s only Vandy!”
Please don’t let the Dores SEC history blind you from the Ole Miss/Vandy series. This is not just another series. It’s our cross conference rival and they always play Ole Miss tough. However, they are still just Vanderbilt and we have a score to settle.
This game will have the feel of the typical Ole Miss/Vandy football game. The game will be close headed into the 4th quarter, however Ole Miss will pull away and get the homecoming win.
