Class of 2021

My choice for the freshman class is a little different. Since there are many freshman who are red-shirts, I’ve decided to have two selections from this class. One who represents a true freshman straight out of high school. Then there will be one selected from those who were red-shirted last year. The list of candidates from both sides are numerous.

Incoming freshman are hard to judge. However, the potential of those who are coming to Ole Miss is great. There are going to be some guys who will more than likely make an immediate impact. Josh Clarke and Mohamed Sanogo will add depth to the linebacker position. D. D. Bowie and Kam’ron White bring that Mississippi pride and talent to the team.

The team is filled with red-shirt freshmen. Charles Wiley will add depth to the defensive line and could be a key cog in the defense. Donta Evans has shown signs of being very valuable. Tre Nixon is another great receiver. However, the offensive line looks great for the future with Royce Newman, Jack DeFoor and Eli Johnson looking to get some playing time.

So here are the two players I choose for the honor.

Breon Dixon (Fr.)

His commitment to the Rebels last year was a high point of the season. Dixon coming in and spending the spring with the Rebels was great for his progress. It appears to have given him a leg up in playing time. Look for him to be a constant contributor next year. However, he has the talent to be one of the big time players for years to come. I look forward to seeing him on the field.

D. K. Metcalf (RS-Fr)

Although he was on his way to having a special freshman season, an injury prevented him from being on the field most of the year. However, he was able to get a medical red-shirt. So now he’s able to come into the 2017 season with a fresh slate. He will be impressive while on the field. Just like A. J. Brown, he has tremendous power and speed. His catch radius is good for a freshman. He is proven to be a red zone nightmare for defenses. This receiving corps is crazy.

That’s my list. So what is your list? Share the article and post your best player in each class.
