Ole Miss Football: Grove Grinder, Nuttgate Is Hot Topic, Freeze Solid
Welcome to Grove Grinder. Ole Miss football fans were able to get a really good laugh from the ‘Nuttgate’ lawsuit yesterday, however today it was the hottest topic at SEC Media Days.
After a four-plus years long colonoscopy by the NCAA, Ole Miss football fans should be happy to know we can find comic relief in Houston D Nutt. Oh I know, we’ve all heard the yapping from TBSU about the huge ‘bombshell’ coming during SEC Media Days.
However it turns out the huge ‘bombshell’ was just the lawsuit which Ole Miss fans had already known was coming. As fellow OHT contributor John Gillon so eloquently put it, “What bombshell? It’s more like lighting a fart!” Thank you John and be sure to enjoy social media for the next few days.
Sure, it’s a real lawsuit even if it is Houston D Nutt is ‘doing the suing’ but it still doesn’t make it any more serious than John’s quick-witted quip. The lawsuit is a joke plain and simple. At this point this entire NCAA investigation/fiasco and each and every lawsuit which had been filed has been severely de-legitimized.
The biggest problem I have is the under-handed way to release the lawsuit. I realize all is fair in love, war, and football but that was the biggest turd move possible by Nutt and his attorney. Let me hear someone say what a great coach HDN was for Ole Miss and how he care’s about the game and players so much. If that were the case then why ‘try’ to sabotage Hugh Freeze and the Rebel’s prior to their time at the podium? Better luck next time HDN. All you and your attorney accomplished was to defame yourself even more.
Nutt’s Talk Is Cheap
Ole Miss Rebels Football
Houston Nutt does NOT love Ole Miss and he never has. He didn’t love Ole Miss when we walked onto the lot. He just needed to sell a car and we were stupid enough to think we weren’t getting a lemon.
The sad part is the vehicle he sold us ran good for a couple of years but the salesman didn’t honor his end of the deal. The vehicle broke down while still under warranty and we got stuck with a broke down wreck. A wreck another guy fixed for us.
Now a few years go by and the lemon is under inspection. There are defects which were ugly problems neglected by the original salesman. However when it’s time to own his share of the responsibility for the defects, he wants us to pay anyway.
Houston Nutt is a salesman period. As a matter of fact as my buddy Robert M. stated, “Nutt could sell water to a drowning victim!” The ability to sell anything is a great character trait to have. The problem only begins when you sell something you can’t back up. Houston D Nutt couldn’t back up what he was selling. He just quit working after a really good run.
The Podium Belonged To Freeze
Of course, all the rumor mongers were wrong about Freeze announcing his retirement today. Oh yeah and he also showed up in Hoover. They were wrong about that too. On the contrary, Hugh Freeze showed up and stole the show. Literally, but that was while actually at the podium, first he had to get by Finebaum and Co.
We were pretty sure the multitude of questions would revolve around the NCAA case. Of course, as of yesterday we figured out there would also be Nuttgate. Coach Hugh Freeze handled himself wonderfully from the very start with the firing squad from the SECN staff. They did finally ask the tough questions on day four of SEC Media Days and they were loaded for bear. Pun intended.
There were no flustered moments in the heat of battle for our head coach. He answered every question on set with very direct answers and of course he looked great. Coach Freeze handled himself admirably under fire. Good job coach!
Then came the moment to take the podium. It was nice of SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey to acknowledge the hard work Coach Hugh Freeze has done for the SEC away from the actual field of play. What was even nicer was Coach Hugh Freeze being himself and not putting on the same mutt and pony show we saw from other coaches. (More on Freeze and his SEC Media Days takeover later.)
At least he didn’t brown nose the SEC Commissioner on national television and then request walk up music. Cousin Eddie actually believes he would have walk up music? Maybe the MSU Moofia will make it happen for the greatest coach in MSU history. That’s almost as funny as Houston Nutt’s lawsuit. Thanks for the laughs guys. Hotty Toddy.
