What Roach Has Done So Far

Coach Freddie Roach has been busy. In fact, he has been very busy. Despite taking over a very talented defensive line, coach Roach went straight to work showing them new techniques. Most defensive players will tell you about having all the talent in the world and being caught out of position.

Great talent and bad technique equal miscues and that cost in yards and inevitably in points. We saw a lot of that last season. Coach Freddie Roach never played that way nor has he coached around that mindset. He is a winner and knows defense wins championships. Of course, the defensive line is the anchor of the defense.

Coach Freddie Roach has also been very busy on the recruiting trail. So far 7 of the 10 verbal commitments for Ole Miss football recruiting have been on the defensive side of the ball. 6 of those 7 players either can or eventually will be able to play on the defensive line. Oh yeah, 3 of those players are from neighboring Alabama and one is from Meridian, Mississippi which lies on the Alabama state line. I see a recurring theme which I really like.

Next: There Will Be Defense!

It’s easy to see there is a major focus being placed on the defense and after last season that’s a really good thing. If there is a ‘Landshark’ resurgence in this upcoming season it will be because of strong defensive line and a great young man to coach them. Thank you coach Freddie Roach for making Ole Miss your home for you and your family. Good luck in this upcoming season Coach Roach. Hotty Toddy.
