My Pick:

Picking between Charlie Strong and Brent Venables was not easy.

Charlie Strong has a poetic ring to it.  He can also recruit well and has ties in Florida and Texas.

Brent Venables may be the most sought after assistant coach in the country.  Picking venables would also aggravate my Clemson friend, which is always fun. I believe his exact words when poked at about Venables were “Shut your mouth right now”, followed by a “Hell No”.

I’m inclined to lean towards Venables currently. If Strong has a solid season at USF, my opinion could easily change; however, that would make him a very hot commodity in the coaching carousel. And no, I am not picking Venables solely to aggravate a friend. Okay, maybe a little bit, but what can I say, it brings me joy.

Venables may not come to Oxford, but there is no harm in throwing the money we would have paid Freeze at him. Give him a decision to make and see what happens.
