Ole Miss football fans can count on two things. If the worst could possibly happen to Ole Miss it probably will and there will always be a Grove Grinder.

The past two weeks have been rough for Ole Miss football fans. Of course last week was the Neshoba County Fair and there were Miss State fans in my ear all week. Now the Fair is over and it’s back to business as usual for most of us. It usually takes about a week to recuperate from all the festivities for the die-hard fair-goer. For this Rebel, my gears are still grinding even tho they have been busted since Freeze’s resignation.

In two weeks we have lost a head coach and gained a deserving interim. We have also lost commitments which we were banking on in light of the NCAA investigation and upcoming COI ruling. Of course, Tuesday night two Ole Miss football players were arrested for shoplifting. I really hate it for the team and coach Luke. When the focus should have clearly been on the beginning of fall practice tomorrow a couple of players took part in shenanigans.

Luke Needs To Be Tough

Well, this may be a chance for Matt Luke to show us just what kind of head coach he will be. According to Davis Potter, the two players were projected to be defensive starters.

This is not the kind of attention this Ole Miss football team needs at any point, but especially not now with all which has already happened.

Hopefully coach Luke will handle it with swift punishment and make them an example for the rest of the team. They are both very talented players and will be missed should they face suspensions.

Davis Potter also reported the two players, Webster and Bing-Dukes, have court on the 16th of September.

Perhaps this will be a defining moment for Ole Miss football and coach Luke. If he intends on remaining as head coach he cannot afford to lose his grip on players who get into legal trouble. It is especially important when both players are expected to be starters. What kind of message will Luke send? We get to wait and see.

Some Good News

Actually its great news! Ole Miss football is only one month away and fall practice begins tomorrow. You can believe the coaching staff and players are ready to Rise Up and get started putting the past behind them. This will virtually be a clean slate for coach Luke and this Ole Miss football team.

Next: It's Almost Here!

OHT will be giving daily updates on fall practice and everything Ole Miss football. Of course, maybe there won’t be more unnecessary distractions for the Rebels. Good luck to the coaching staff and team as they prepare for the season opener against South Alabama on September 2. Hotty Toddy!
