There is no doubt this has been a particularly rough summer for Ole Miss football fans. However, thankfully the summer is coming to an end.

This summer has been a pretty bad ride for many Ole Miss football fans. There is really no way of saying it any better than we have seen the culmination of a NCAA investigation which turned into the classic ‘dumpster fire’. No it hasn’t been easy being a Rebel fan in recent weeks. But hey, we never said it would be easy.

Thankfully, summer is  coming to an end and fall practice has begun. Now at least we know we will finally see football season. Everybody knows, besides bacon, football is the only thing which makes everything better. Just like you can’t go wrong with bacon, you can’t go wrong when you are wanting to prove something and there is nothing to lose. Sure, every year every team dreams of going 12-0, however it seldom happens.

This season Ole Miss literally has nothing to lose. The best we can hope for is undefeated status. Although that would mean going 12-0 and having nothing else to play for, it would be awesome. Then there is being realistic and hoping for a really great season. A season which would ultimately be more damaging for others than beneficial for ourselves. I mean seriously, isn’t that what our opposition thrives on? Our own failures rather than their own success?

Going For Broke

Being a team which has been marked as a non-contender for the 2017 season is a heart-breaker. However, this is exactly what this team is banking on. They are expecting to be the unexpected. This team is dangerous simply because they have nothing to lose.

But really, if this team goes 12-0, 7-5 or 0-12 it matters not. What matters is there was this team in this time, brothers playing for each other. And that’s really all any of these guys really want, just to play football. However, this season is still different.

It’s been said by players, staffers ad fans this season feels different. It should feel different. No other team in the history of college football has had the NCAA camped out on their doorsteps for 5 years.

However, we have. We are Ole Miss. Other schools hate us. That’s ok, I could care less. But after this season you will hate us even more. After this season you will once again wish the hammer’s fall upon Oxford. Because this season will be different.

The Difference

Forget the term ‘interim’. Forget Freeze. Forget the NCAA. Forget all the adversity. What makes this team different from all the rest? They are one, plain and simple. Throughout everything else they have stood together and will again this season. They know who they are and what they are as a team and this team is loaded with talent. Especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Honestly, this stands to be the best offense in program history. Although most pundits have written us off because of the bowl ban which we already self-imposed, this team will still have plenty to play for. This will be a number of player’s senior seasons and they want to be as great as they can possibly be. They also want to spoil some other team’s seasons in the process.

Next: A Legit 9-3 Season!

How good will they be? Well that remains to be seen. However, I believe this will be the best offense we’ve seen in Oxford since Eli Manning. That says a lot. At least we don’t have to wait much longer to find out. Hotty Toddy!
