Ole Miss football fans can now look forward to football season a little more with the first scrimmage of the fall and with Meet The Rebels!

The past few months have seemed to drag by for many die-hard Ole Miss football fans, however we are getting ever closer to kickoff of the 2017 football season. Fans had a chance to Meet The Rebels during what has become an annual event for Ole Miss football.

Held in the IPF, Meet The Rebels gives fans a chance to rub shoulders with the players they will so adamantly cheer for this season. Of course, there are posters which fans can get autographed by their favorite players. However, there were no pics allowed to be taken with players as their were NCAA officials reportedly present. Smh.

Of course, Meet The Rebels always coincides with fall practice however there were also other Ole Miss athletics programs represented as well. Although football received the most attention on the day, volleyball, rifle, soccer and the cheerleaders also all received a warm welcome in the annual event.

Of course, finally having a chance to get a scrimmage after a week and a half of practice is a great reward for guys itching to get some contact. Although the scrimmage was closed to the media and public, there was still excitement in the air yesterday.

There were plenty of big plays made on both sides of the ball which included several huge breakaway runs. There were also several big catches made by Ole Miss wide receivers.

The biggest story of the scrimmage was the transport of Wayne County standout and Ole Miss defensive tackle Benito Jones from the practice field via ambulance to Oxford Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Although Jones took a vicious hit on a play and went down, Jones never had any loss of sensation in any of his extremities. Jones was kept overnight for spinal x-rays and regular observation.

As reported by Rebels247,

"“Benito Jones was released this morning from Baptist Memorial Hospital after being kept overnight for precautionary reasons. All tests came back normal, and his playing status is day-to-day as his symptoms resolve,” ~Ole Miss spokesperson"

What’s Up Next?

The Rebels will be off Monday prior to returning to the practice field Tuesday. Of course, the Rebels are preparing for the season opener against South Alabama on September 2nd. The USA Jaguars, coached by former Alabama standout Joey Jones, upset Miss State in their season opener last season.

Next: Expect Greatness!

Kickoff for the South Alabama game is scheduled for 6:30 pm from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Fans are asked to wear white for the game. While tickets are still available for the game it will be televised on ESPNU. Good luck to our Rebels! Hotty Toddy!
