Ole Miss football saw the results of poor linebacker play last season because of a noticeable lack of depth. This season that should change.

There was an obvious problem with linebacker play last season as Ole Miss football fans watched the wheels fall off. The Landshark defense was absent as the defense blew big leads and were simply over-matched in some games. Of course, by seasons end there were already people calling for change and they got it.

Enter Bradley Dale Peveto as the new linebackers and special teams coach. Bradley Dale Peveto is a 1987 graduate of Southern Methodist University where he lettered four seasons. Peveto also served as team captain during his senior season with SMU.

Peveto has assembled quite an extensive resume during his time as a coach. Of course, having been in the game for as long as he has we can be sure we are getting noticeable experience. He also brings a genuine twist at linebacker coach and special teams which is sorely needed to compete on the SEC level.

Although Peveto has coached at a number of different schools and in several capacities, his main success has been at linebackers and special teams coach. However, he was also a head coach for three years at Northwestern State where he was known for his tenacious defenses.

Now Bradley Dale Peveto comes to Oxford via LSU where he served two tenures. While in Red Stick he garnered national attention as both linebackers and special teams coach. Of course, he was a part of Les Miles’ Tiger staff which won a national championship.

According to OleMissSports.com,

"“In his first stint on the Tiger staff, Peveto’s development of linebackers was critical to the LSU defense rating among the top five in the nation for three straight years from 2005-07. During that three-year stretch, the LSU defense held opponents to an average of 266.7 total yards and 15.7 points per game.” ~OleMissSports.com"

He Will Help The Defense

There is no doubt coach Peveto has a tall challenge ahead of him, however he is up for the task. He comes from a football family where his dad was a head coach and athletic director. He admits his own father was tough and very much a disciplinarian which is what any college player needs. That is exactly what we need on defense in Oxford right now.

His first order of business has been rebuilding depth at a position where Ole Miss has always flourished and has been the key to the Landshark defense. He is pleased with what he has seen so far and believes the best is yet to come for this young linebacker corp. Coach Peveto knows he has a lot of great young talent to work with.
