Ole Miss Football: Five Very Bold Predictions For The 2017 Season!

Matt Luke, Named Head Coach

This is really a no-brainer. I stand behind my initial season predictions for this season for this time. Of course, when my season prediction of a 9-3 record really happens Matt Luke will certainly be a lock for the official title of Ole Miss head coach. It really doesn’t matter that Luke is now running the show in Oxford instead of Freeze.

If anything the former coach Freeze departure has relieved many Ole Miss fans now that we’ve had a chance to digest it. I have to believe having a head coach without personal issues and pressures beyond the field will have a positive effect on this team immediately. I’ve said before I was unsure about him as head coach at first. However, the more I hear him talk I like him more and more for the job.

From our old seats in Section C in the Vaught, I can remember hearing him on the sideline right in front of us. The linemen all came to that spot between series, I’ve seen him in coaching action up close and personal. Matt Luke was always motivated, excited and animated on the sideline both as a player and a position coach. We will continue to see that from him as a head coach.

He Earns The Job

His successful transition from interim status to permanent relies significantly on the success of this team of course. However, this team is loaded with young talent. Although it may be relatively young they are exceptional athletes and also have valuable experience. No more so than on offense. This team will be special this season.

Of course, being a long-standing part of the Ole Miss family never hurts either. The Luke family is very well-known throughout Ole Miss, Oxford and here in Neshoba county. What he does have is working knowledge of the Ole Miss program and has been thru this entire NCAA fiasco and come out unscathed. He is by far the right man for the permanent position as head coach for Ole Miss football. Good luck coach Luke!
