Ole Miss football season is getting closer Of course, with having to wait less than two weeks we are beginning to get excited. Grove Grinder looks at a few other really cool things.

Being a Ole Miss football fan comes with some degree of uncertainty, especially now. It’s always a great feeling to know you can count on a few things which never change. However, it comes down to a slight few which are really enjoyable. The past week gave me a chance to enjoy a few certainties.

Besides a spider-bite and ER visit of course, I was able to hangout with a couple of buddies in Camden, Mississippi. We had made plans for me to come visit and bring my blue-tick hound, Lucy. Of course when somebody offers to let you turn your dog out in the middle of nowhere, it usually involves corn and coons. So happily I made the trip.

Lucy and I didn’t have a very good hunt from a ‘hunt’ perspective, however it was great to be able to hang out with some old high-school buddies. We only got one coon but more than that, I was able to hang out with a Rebel and a Bulldog. Matt and Stacey, thanks for the fun night and the hospitality!

Our Views Vary On Some Things

One of the other certainties we have to eventually realize is our views will always vary. However, even friends can disagree and even friend and foe can find neutral ground. Kinda like hanging out in the woods with a MSU fan.

Of course, we were treated Monday to a total eclipse of the sun for much of the country. While there were some people across the nation who found themselves in total darkness, some of us barely dimmed.

In cities across America, sky watchers gathered together to witness what is a once in a lifetime event. If you had access to the internet or television then you saw what many of us also witnessed. Thousands gathered together all wanting the same view of the same thing and the masses received.

In our everyday lives it is seldom we see that special moment happen. Most of the time we are left with differing views even when many of us can only see the differences in each other. As Shepard Smith with Fox News stated, “America needs more eclipses!”

Less Than Two Weeks

As I said earlier we are just days away from the beginning of Ole Miss football. Once it begins there will be another enjoyable certainty. Regardless of what happens on the field of play, win or lose, at least we’ll have football game-day. Once again all will be aligned correctly and we will have the same view looking towards the same outcome.

As people of all colors, shapes and sizes we need to learn to enjoy this life instead of making it harder for others. The sooner we learn to find a common denominator, the sooner we can all find the same result. There will always be a chance to come together as a species and seek the same outcome. We just have to do it.

Next: There Will Be Records!

It doesn’t have to be a hunting trip, an eclipse or even football, though they are always enjoyable regardless of the outcome. Though there may not be another eclipse in my lifetime, there will be more hunting trips with buddies. Of course, there will also be Ole Miss football. Those things are great. Remember to ‘Lock the Vaught’ on September 2 as the Rebels take on the Jags of South Alabama. Are you ready?
