Ole Miss football has a great quarterback in Shea Patterson. Now, this season, is the time for Shea to shine and find his way to the glow of the big city lights.

Sure, as a Ole Miss football contributor for OHT I may be just a little biased. However, the numbers he has put up so far this season certainly justify his name being on any early Davey O’Brien and Heisman lists. After a week one performance worthy of the Davey O’Brien weekly award watch list the ‘Great 8‘, it makes you wonder why he was snubbed by the coveted Manning Award watch list.

Sure, there are those of you pundits who claimed he hadn’t accomplished much as a freshman. However, it’s hard to make sense of that mindset after two record-setting weekends for Shea Patterson and company. Also considering Ole Miss is 2/3 of the Manning Award, come on.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand why he was left off. Also, I’m not here with Egg on my face after week-two. I know Shea is a freak when it comes to the quarterback position. I’m not just a fan of Ole Miss but I’m a fan of Shea Patterson. I’m a fan of the same Shea Patterson who was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

A Fan Of Ole Miss Family

I’m also a fan of making our quarterback feel like a welcomed part of the Ole Miss family. Of course, hindsight or not, the Manning family failed at doing this. Look, I respect the Manning family as an integral part of the Ole Miss family. I also respect the Patterson family for the very same reason.

Now during the NCAA COI meeting in Kentucky for the Ole Miss investigation, we have a legit nationally recognized quarterback. We are indeed lucky. A QB like Shea only comes along ever so often. Shea is special.

Given the fact there could be a ruling of a two-year bowl ban in Ole Miss football’s future and there could be a mass exodus of high-level players, I’d do what needed to be done to make player feel welcome at home.

I’m not saying to roll out a red and blue carpet, but here at Ole Miss we always take care of our own. Or at least we always have. Shea and this offense is the backbone of Ole Miss football and Shea is also the future of Ole Miss football.

Now, of all times, with so much focus placed on Ole Miss family with the support for interim head coach Matt Luke, why not take care of Shea? I mean right now he is way more important to Ole Miss football than Archie or Eli. Shea is the glue which holds this year’s Ole Miss family and team together, plain and simple.

So How Good Is Shea?

Oh yeah, he’s good. Really good. And if you have to face him this season you’ll see just how good he is. The thing which will stand out to you most is the fear. The fear of being embarrassed by the best QB in the SEC. If he is on your schedule then you have the ‘fear’.

This is indeed a special season. Already in two games, Shea Patterson has seen the opportunity to give his number one receiver a record and take one for himself. As I’ve said before, “Don’t tell me this isn’t a special season. It already has been!”

In two games, Patterson ranks among the tops in the nation and is trending upward to say the least. He has at his disposal one of the greatest receiver corps in the nation. So far Shea has put up phenomenal numbers. After just two games, Shea is in control. After a week-one performance of 429 yards which came close to Archie’s single-game record, Shea broke it! He didn’t just break it, he shattered it by 60 yards.

So, you ask what is 60 yards? Well, sixty yards is good enough to make a difference in the record books. The thing with Shea it isn’t a fluke. He may have a bad game but for the most part Shea Patterson is going to be dominant. If he is on your schedule then you have a reason to be scared! It’s ok, we understand your fear. You’ve earned it.

Thru two games Shea has amassed almost a 1K of total offense. Sure, you should be worried with Shea Patterson on your schedule. This weekend the fear belongs to Cal Bears football as they welcome Shea and company to Berkeley. Hotty Toddy!
