So far, Ole Miss football fans have heard an awful lot about one very ‘simple’ word. This Grove Grinder is about simplification.

Recently Ole Miss football has obviously become complicated. I mean we continue to hear about the simplification of things and yet they’ve failed to live up to expectations. Since halftime at the Cal game Ole Miss football has not come close. In six quarters they’ve managed to score 3 points.

By any standard it is unacceptable. However, when you also factor in the rest of the numbers it looks really bad. Two. The number of losses resulting from lackluster performance. One. The number of times Ole Miss football has put points on the board in six quarters. It was a FG thanks to Gary Wunderlich. Sixty-six. The number of, well you know the rest.

No, it hasn’t been pretty by any stretch of the imagination. All the while Ole Miss fans have been left with tears and promises of something more.

Well, actually it’s been promises of something less. Something simple. Right now, there is no ‘simple’ when it comes to Ole Miss football. Almost every aspect of this season is complicated.

No, simple would be a 35-17 loss to Bama with a win over Cal. Simple is obviously not working and we have a scrappy Auburn Tigers team this week. I really doubt simple cuts the mustard.

Show Us Something…Anything

I really do NOT want to see simple this weekend. Gus Malzahn and staff have had enough time in the SEC to correct what deficiencies they might have had in recent seasons. Trust me, simple will not be a part of their game and it shouldn’t be a part of the Rebel game-plan either.

No, I’m convinced simplification is our problem. We need to be complicated. A high-school offense isn’t going to cut it against the SEC. Honestly, the defense didn’t look much better than high-school. On bot sides of the ball the Rebels need to hurry up and show something. Come on coach Longo, you have the passing leader in the SEC as your QB right now.

It’s obvious Shea Patterson is good but has been horse-collared by an inept offensive game-plan. If it works, don’t fix it. However, in the past 6 quarters it hasn’t worked. The Ole Miss Rebels coaching staff needs to make things tough for other teams to beat us. So far, they have fallen well short.

Next: Season Predictions!

Don’t simply let the other team out-perform Ole Miss. Simply open up the old playbook and get back to simply winning. Simply win each snap and get back to controlling the line of scrimmage. Simply learn how to handle a blitz and simply learn how to tackle. Simply take over Auburn or simply see another ugly loss. So far, the simple Ole Miss plan hasn’t worked.
