Special Teams Grade

Special teams continue to show they can play solid. However, Gary Wunderlich has struggled at FGs in 2 out of 3 losses although he did keep us out of a shutout against Bama. Gary was 1 of 2 in the Auburn game missing a FG in early in the first quarter. He did connect on a 27 yarder later in the first. Of course, Gary is a great kicker and will figure it out sooner rather than later.  I believe Gary kicks well throughout the rest of the season.

As far as return specialist go, the Ole Miss special teams has continued to impress. They are just a block or two away from breaking some big returns. Jaylon Jones has continued to show his talent in covering kicks. Jones covered 2 for 40 yards with a 24 yard pickup in one. Jones is just a step away from some really big gainers.

Will Gleason and Mac Brown combined for 6 punts which netted 267 yards. Will Gleason booted a 51 yarder. Luke Logan once again handled kickoff duties and had 2 touch-backs in 4 kickoffs. Luke also kicked 2 PATs in the contest.

It’s easy to see coach Bradley Dale Peveto has worked hard to get this special teams in the shape its in. As stated before, this special teams play solid and heads up. This may just win us some games down the road. For the Auburn game they deserve a fair grade.
