Many Ole Miss football fans have found themselves elated over the past few days. Interim head coach Matt Luke is no longer tagged with interim and has been announced as the head coach of Ole Miss football.

So Ole Miss football has wound down for the 2017 season or has it? Here we are with a new permanent head coach and the end of football season as we know it. No, any other year a 6-6 team would be looking at a bowl game. However, this year is different because of a few very unfortunate numbers on a cell phone.

For now it is just as this. We have no idea what the calls were or why they were made, however we do know the numbers were enough to cost former coach Hugh Freeze his job. Enter new head coach Matt Luke. In late July we already knew Matt Luke would have at least one season as Ole Miss head coach. Then came the Egg Bowl. With a 5-6 record coach Matt Luke was coaching for a future job.

The amazing thing was the Rebels winning the 114th Egg Bowl and Matt Luke subsequently becoming the permanent Ole Miss head coach. It surprised many and shocked that many more Rebels, However, now Matt Luke is the NEW head coach at Ole Miss. How will he do as head coach? That remains to be seen although he now has control of the reins.

So far I’ve had a pretty good week poking Mutts and killing hopes and dreams. I’ve tried to be nice and consider each source of the past years torment from last year’s 55-20 Egg Bowl loss.

However, now that the game has been played and the outcome has been issued I’ve tried to be neutral allowing each Bulldog eat the equal dish of egg from the incredible Ole Miss victory.

It would have been easier for the Mutts to handle but Cousin Eddie hightailed it out of Starkville for the better job in Gainesville. I mean can any Ole Miss fan blame him for leaving? No, we really can’t and neither can the Bulldogs.

So now Starkville and Miss State fans are on fire from the departure of their greatest coach in the football programs history. I hate to say it but I’m enjoying watching them squirm as they await their coaching fate.

Basketball Season Is Here!

It’s time for some round-ball and after the football season we’ve had in Oxford I have been happy to see it. That is until last night when Ole Miss basketball dropped a 99-97 overtime game to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. I know you are asking yourself, Jackrabbits? Really? Yes really Jackrabbits.

Who knows what this basketball season may bring. However, I know the Rebels have a really good team who just had a bad night on the court. Like any other sport, basketball is a game which thrives on teamwork and momentum. It’s also a game which swings thru the ups and downs. The more this team plays together the better they’ll become.

It’s a lot like this game we call life. You can always count on winning a few and losing a few. Of course, when you realize you can’t do everything by yourself you learn to rely on those around you who have a stake in your game. Remember to count the blessings in life who are friends and family. Life takes teamwork and sometimes it requires jumping thru hoops.
